Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined Newcastle United in the hunt for Salomon Rondon, according to The Daily Mail.
West Bromwich Albion striker Rondon, 29, has enjoyed a successful season on loan at Newcastle. With 12 goals, including 11 in the Premier League, Rondon has shown Magpies fans what he can do.
After West Brom lost their play-off semi-final, they were consigned to another season in the Championship. This means that his £16.5m release clause is still active.
Newcastle were hoping to drive down his asking price by using Dwight Gayle as a makeweight. Gayle has impressed on loan at West Brom this season during a loan swap.
But Wolves could throw a spanner in the works. They want the Venezuela international to move to Molineux after an impressive seventh-place finish.
If Rondon gets a choice, he needs to look at his two options carefully. At Newcastle, he is familiar with the fans an integral to their style of play under Benitez.
However, a move to Wolves could give him Europa League football. But first-team opportunities are not guaranteed due to the good form of Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.
Rondon has options on the table, especially if both clubs trigger his release clause, but he needs to make a sensible career choice.
