Tottenham have reportedly seen a £15million transfer fee accepted by Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers for their defender Matt Doherty.
According to the Express and Star, Spurs have reached a £15million agreement for the right-back and he’s set to leave Molineux after 10 years at the club.
The report explains that the 28-year-old is now set to go ahead and agree personal terms with Jose Mourinho’s side, while his medical will take place this weekend.
Doherty, who earns £50,000-a-week, has been picked out by Spurs as someone who can improve their defence and they are now closing in on his signature.
The Irishman has been a regular in the Wolves team that has managed back-to-back seventh-placed finishes in the Premier League since promotion from the Championship.
He’s been such a consistent performer in a right wing-back role for Wolves and provides such a goal threat going forward, scoring seven goals and supplying five assists in 50 appearances across all competitions last season.

TBR’s View – Massive win for Spurs
Despite the fact Doherty has really made a name for himself in a wing-back role, signing him for £15million looks an absolute bargain for Spurs and it’s easy to picture him slotting into an attacking full-back role in Mourinho’s system.
Serge Aurier was the starting right-back in the second half of last season that was given a licence to go forward, but the Wolves man looks on upgrade on paper considering he’s more reliable defensively and also a bigger goal threat.
Mourinho appears to be doing some extremely shrewd pieces of transfer business so far this summer without spending fortunes and Doherty is someone that can immediately improve the starting XI.
