Wolves could be set to complete the signing of their long-term target, Palhinha, for a bargain fee this summer from Portuguese giants, Sporting Lisbon.

Palhinha has a release clause in his contract of around €60m, according to a previous report from 90 Min.

However, a new report from O Jogo, via ESPN, claims Wolves are now set to land Palhinha and his teammate Rodrigo Fernandes in a deal worth as little as £25m.

But it is midfielder Palhinha who could be the player to make an immediate impact in Wolves’ squad. The Lisbon man is currently enjoying a fine loan spell with Braga, who have, coincidentally, met Wolves in Europe this season.

The 24-year-0ld is predominantly a defensive midfielder. However, if needed, he can push on either further back or forward.

Wolves already have strong Portuguese links within their squad. The likes of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, and Joao Moutinho have all arrived thanks to the club’s relationship with Jorge Mendes.

Rodrigo Fernandes, meanwhile, is a highly-rated youngster in the Lisbon ranks. He would appear to be a signing aimed at securing Wolves’ future.

It’s not surprising to see Wolves making moves into the Portuguese market here. With global markets down around the world, Portugal can be a hotbed of talent at relatively low prices.

Palhinha, then, could be the next in line for Wolves. He’s proven this season for Braga how good he can be. And while it’s strange Lisbon haven’t quite fancied utilising him yet, that could be to Wolves’ benefit.

Nuno Santo knows the market well in Portugal. Don’t be surprised, then, to see Palhinha make a big impact in the PL if he does sign.
