Wolverhampton Wanderers are considering a move for Salomon Rondon with the club preparing to be without Raul Jimenez for a lengthy period, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (13/12; page 62).

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men had already been amongst the lowest scorers in the Premier League before Jimenez’s injury. And in the two games they have played without the Mexican, they have failed to find the back of the net.

So perhaps unsurprisingly, they are now looking to sign a new striker in January.

And according to the Sunday Mirror (13/12; page 62), Rondon is a name who features high on their list.

Rondon is currently playing for Dalian Pro. He scored five goals in league games for Rafa Benitez’s side last season.

Of course, the Venezuelan knows the Premier League well. He has scored 35 league goals in England, having spent time with West Brom and Newcastle during his career.

Much may depend on how much Wolves may have to pay for the 31-year-old. But if he is available for a reasonable fee, he could arguably be a shrewd signing. According to the Chronicle however, he is earning around £250,000-a-week in China.

He may provide a safe pair of hands while Jimenez is sidelined. And when the 29-year-old does return, he would arguably be a very good understudy to have in the ranks.
