Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly shown an interest in signing Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies in the summer.

According to the Stoke Sentinel, Wolves have eyed the 26-year-old and he would arrive at Molineux as a number two option if he joins them.

It is understood that five other clubs in the shape of Stoke City, Birmingham City, Hull City, Bristol City and Brentford are also all keen on him.

The report details that the shot-stopper is out of contract in the summer at Oakwell and that’s why there is widespread interest mounting in him.

Davies has helped Barnsley win automatic promotion from League One this season and has been a brick well at the back.

The goalkeeper has kept an incredible 20 clean sheets in 47 games across all competitions for the Yorkshire club.

He is also a senior Wales international and made his debut in a friendly against Trinidad back in March.

TBR’s View:

Davies has been an excellent servant for Barnsley with 209 appearances for them, but it seems the summer is a good time for him to move on.

The Welshman has the potential to play at a higher level, as he’s got great reflexes and is comfortable on the ball.

Wolves are a team that have finished seventh in the Premier League this season, so it would be a colossal jump up from League One next year if he moved to the West Midlands.

He could provide as a decent back-up option to number one Rui Patricio and it looks very unlikely he could put any pressure on him.

But manager Nuno Espirito Santo may need a bigger squad next season at Molineux, as there is a chance they will be playing European football.
