Report: Wolves and Palace interested in Fiorentina striker Christian Kouame, player expected to be sold

Wolves are set to go head to head with Crystal Palace in the race to sign Fiorentina striker Christian Kouame, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. It is claimed La Viola are keen to sell the Ivory Coast international, with the forward struggling to recreate the form he showed at Genoa and Cittadella.

Having a hand in 30 goals for Cittadella, Kouame earned a move to the big leagues with Genoa in 2018. He started well, and after 18 goal involvements in 51 Genoa outings, Fiorentina chose to get him initially on loan. But his form has not been as prominent in the purple of Fiorentina.

Kouame has now been at Fiorentina for 18 months and has found the back of the net just three times. The form of Dusan Vlahovic has pushed him down the pecking order and he needs a move. It is claimed that both Palace and Wolves are willing to look past his Fiorentina form.

Palace have been interested in Kouame for some time, while interest from Wolves has generated in the last couple of months. Signed by Fiorentina for around £10million, it was claimed in January by Sky Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio that Fiorentina would only consider offers of £17million.

Leeds United were also linked back in January.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Kouame is a good player, but is he good enough for Wolves or Palace?

Perhaps, as a squad player. Kouame is strong, he boasts plenty of speed and he can score any type of goal. But he needs momentum. He needs to feel like he is one of the best players at the club. An international teammate of Wilfried Zaha, Kouame would not start for either Palace or Wolves.

But coming off the bench, he offers something different. Able to play anywhere in the front three, Kouame can inject speed and a bit of a change up top if needed. For £17million? He is probably not worth it but for around £12million, he would be a decent acquisition for either side.
