Wolves and Spain international Rafa Mir has been honoured in a strange way recently.
What’s the story?
The £1.5m centre-forward spent last season on loan with SD Huesca. The 24-year-old featured in all 38 La Liga fixtures, scoring 13 times for the club.
It earned the player a call-up to the Spain squad for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Mir scored a crucial hat-trick for his country in their quarter-final victory over the Ivory Coast.
His form over the last year or so has earned him links with Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.
However, that’s not the biggest news surrounding the ace.
According to Heraldo, Mir is set to have a football pitch in Javalí Nuevo named after him. The move comes after the player’s achievements over the last year or so.

Mir honoured after lack of opportunity at Wolves
It’s amazing what can happen in the world of football. You can go from zero to hero, and vice versa, at the snap of your fingers.
That’s exactly the case with the Spaniard who has enjoyed a whirlwind last 12 months or so.
Mir being honoured after a lack of opportunity at Wolves really does show how badly he’s been treated.
Before moving on loan to Huesca, Mir had only made four appearances for the Midlanders. But, the strange thing is, he’s been fairly consistent since moving to the Spanish side.
During the 2019/2020 season, Mir joined in January of that campaign and scored nine times in 18 league games.
He extended his spell into a second season during last term and shone in their first year back in La Liga.
It would be staggering if Wolves let him leave after his show of quality and the club’s desperate need for a striker.
