Report: Willian to Chelsea not happening but Arsenal still open to deal
Chelsea will not be re-signing Willian from Arsenal this summer, although the Gunners could still look to move the Brazilian on.
That is according to a report from Goal, who claim that Willian and Arsenal are both open to a parting of ways this summer. However, that parting of ways won’t include a return to Stamford Bridge.
Instead, it is claimed there is interest from the MLS in the Brazilian. David Beckham’s Inter Miami are one of the clubs said to be keen on Willian.
According to Spotrac, Willian is said to earn around £192k-a-week. That puts him well among the highests earners at the club.
His move from Chelsea last summer has been something of a disaster. He made a good start early on, but has since dipped away. Indeed, the likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka have kept Willian out, while Martin Odegaard was signed in January to add creativity.
The Brazilian title-winner scored just the solitary Premier League goal, while adding five assists. At 33, the time is now for Arsenal, if they are to get some money for their man.
Arsenal may also simply seek a resolution which sees Willian’s wages disappear off the books. Mikel Arteta, once again, is expected to be busy in the summer and those wages could be put to use elsewhere.
Willian should leave, his time at Arsenal has been a shocker
Some fans had reservations when Arsenal signed Willian from Chelsea. And they’ve been proven right.
He seems to have just hit a bit of a brick wall, in all honesty. Gone is the classy playmaker who won numerous trophies with Chelsea. Instead, we’ve seen a player lacking confidence and looking like he’s lost a bit of interest.
For the money Arsenal are paying Willian, it wouldn’t be the end of the world to just let him go for free.
