Arsenal v Liverpool: Premier League 2

Report: William Saliba 'tired' of Arsenal situation, wants to join top-tier side on loan

French website ButFootballClub have claimed that William Saliba is becoming fed up of his situation at Arsenal – and is keen to rejoin Ligue 1 side St. Etienne on loan in the January transfer window.

Saliba, 19, joined Arsenal on a permanent basis in the summer of 2019 before rejoining St. Etienne on loan for 2019-20. He is now available for selection at Arsenal, but Saliba is yet to make his senior debut for the Gunners.

Of Arsenal’s 12 league and cup matches this season, Saliba has only appeared on the bench on two occasions – one of which was the Community Shield win over Liverpool. Saliba is some way down the pecking order, even behind Shkodran Mustafi.

The France Under-20 ace is now ‘tired’ of his situation at Arsenal and is keen on leaving the club on loan in the January window. The report states that he is keen to return to St. Etienne on loan – where he has played 36 times at senior level.

TBR’s view – Saliba needs a loan move

It was believed that Saliba was a target for Championship clubs towards the end of the domestic window, but the Frenchman rejected a move to the second tier of English football. But the £40k-a-week (Spotrac) man remains on the sidelines at Arsenal.

A loan spell at St. Etienne is needed. Saliba’s lack of game time has affected his confidence and there is no better place to regain that, than returning to his boyhood club. Notching up a run of games in the second half of 2020-21 would be beneficial.
