Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a £45million deadline-day move to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, but the latest report from the Guardian’s deadline day blog (Monday, 15:30) claims such a move could affect Wilfried Zaha.
Partey, 27, has been linked with Arsenal for the majority of the transfer window after excelling under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid over the past couple of seasons. Goal claim Arsenal have made a £45million move to sign Partey.
Such a figure would give Atletico money to spend and it is claimed by the Guardian that Atletico could instantly use that money – by raiding Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace to sign Eagles legend Zaha, with the player still keen on a move.
Zaha, also 27, has started the 2019-20 campaign in stunning form – scoring three goals in four outings. He has clocked up a whopping 366 Palace appearances, but it has been made clear he will leave if Palace’s asking price is met.
TBR’s view – Atletico offer would surely tempt Zaha
But would the former Manchester United man suit a defensive system that Simeone employs? It has seen Thomas Lemar – who starred with Monaco before his move to Atletico – struggle and come under huge criticism.
Zaha should be very careful if Atleti do make a late move for his services, though with less than six hours remaining in the window, a move from Simeone’s side with the Partey money for Zaha looks very unlikely.
