According to The Chronicle, two Championship clubs are keen on taking Newcastle United midfielder Dan Barlaser on loan next season.
Barlaser spent last season on loan at Accrington Stanley in League One. And now Newcastle want to test him in a higher division before making a decision on his future with Preston North End and Wigan Athletic interested.
The 22-year-old’s current contract expires in summer 2020. However, the Magpies are likely to extend this deal before sanctioning another loan spell.
During his season with Accrington, Barlaser racked up a total of 48 games, three goals and two assists. He helped to keep Accrington in League One with his midfield performances.
But the Turkey U21 international faces a battle to jump up two divisions and get into the Newcastle side. Therefore, Rafa Benitez is willing to let him leave on loan.
Wigan appear to be leading the race for Barlaser. After staying in the Championship, Paul Cook is eyeing reinforcements. And the Latics boss is a fan of Barlaser’s style of play.
Cook and Wigan have watched Barlaser in action for Accrington this season. And the Championship side are likely to make their move ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Wigan face competition from Preston for Barlaser. Alex Neil’s men are also in the hunt for the Newcastle starlet, who has played three senior games for the Tyneside club.
