Newcastle United’s hierarchy are targeting a top ten finish in the Premier League this season under Eddie Howe.

The Telegraph state that is the aim behind the scenes but PIF are not making their targets for the campaign public.

They report that finishing in the European places would represent an absolutely perfect season, and Newcastle currently sit seventh.

Newcastle are also targeting progression in the domestic cups as they bid to try and end the trophy drought at the club.

Newcastle hierarchy want top ten finish

This is Howe’s first full season in charge of the club and he is charged with continuing the progress he has started at the club.

It has been a year since the takeover and Howe has led Newcastle away from relegation danger so now they can look upwards and not down.

Newcastle have only lost to Liverpool in the Premier League this season – in the last minute – but have struggled to turn draws into wins.

If they can do that regularly, perhaps they can finish in the European places, with other contenders such as West Ham not making the best start to the season.

Going deep into the cups would be a huge boost for the fans, who grew used to their club not taking those competitions as seriously as they could during the Mike Ashley era.

It has been a 12 months of great progress on Tyneside and now they want to keep pushing and stay in the top half all season long.
