Son Heung-min has to undergo surgery on the injury he suffered in Tottenham’s win over Marseille on Tuesday night.

A statement on the club website read: “We can confirm that Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye.

“The South Korea international suffered the injury during the first half of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League victory at Olympique Marseille.

“Following surgery, Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff and we shall update supporters further in due course.”

Son could play before World Cup after surgery

But when will Son be back? The Daily Mail report that the wideman could be seen in a Tottenham shirt before the World Cup.

They say that Son has more than an outside chance of featuring for South Korea in Qatar later this month if his recovery goes to plan.

Son will have the surgery before the end of the week, which means he is more than likely to miss Sunday’s game against Liverpool.

He is also going to be tested for concussion and if he does have that, then he would have to sit out for six days, and definitely couldn’t face the Reds.

The report says that Tottenham insiders have not eliminated the possibility that Son could play against Leeds on November 12 with a protective mask on.

That could be vital to keeping Tottenham’s momentum going in the final game before the World Cup kicks off mid-season.

Son has not been at his best this season but Spurs are short on fit attacking options and have been starting games slowly before coming back to get results.
