The Tottenham Hotspur first-team is currently in limbo and having to take their return to action on a day-by-day basis.

Spurs have been affected by an outbreak of covid that has ripped through Antonio Conte’s squad and staff.

The Tottenham boss confirmed on Wednesday that eight of his first-team players and five staff members had tested positive.

This led to the postponements of both the Conference League meeting with Rennes and the Premier League fixture against Brighton.

Spurs were scheduled to face the French outfit on Thursday and Brighton on Sunday.

The first-team area of the Tottenham training ground at Hotspur Way is currently closed with the players training from home.

But according to a Daily Mail report on Friday night, Spurs are optimistic their first-team players could soon be back in training.

There is hope team training can recommence in the next 48 hours depending on the next round of covid tests, reported the outlet.

This would likely mean Spurs would return to training on Monday morning – perhaps even Sunday evening – if all goes well.

Nonetheless, this appears to be a best-case scenario, and Tottenham’s next fixture – Leicester on Thursday – remains in doubt.

Further positive results for Spurs and also the Foxes, who have had their own covid cases in the past week, will make it difficult for the fixture to take place.

Three Tottenham fixtures have been postponed already this season – Rennes, Brighton and Burnley.
