A report from the Athletic has shared when Jurgen Klopp actually found out Fenway Sports Group were planning to sell Liverpool.

The German boss has enjoyed a hugely successful period under the current ownership as he’s scooped every major honour over the past few years.

But the Athletic revealed on Monday that the current ownership group FSG have put the club up for sale.

The statement read: “There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool.

“FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club.

“FSG remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch.”

Now, the outlet has revealed that Klopp actually knew about the owner’s decision a few weeks ago.

When Klopp found out FSG planning to sell Liverpool

The Athletic reports that Klopp signed a new contract back in April as he was under the impression that FSG would be at the club for the long-term future.

It’s unclear how the German boss will react to a change of ownership due to his close bond with the current owners.

Klopp actually found out about FSG’s intention to sell their minority stake in the club back in October.

It remains unclear whether a deal will be done but FSG is now inviting offers for the club.

There will undoubtedly be widespread interest in a huge Premier League club like Liverpool but it will all depend on the valuation of the club.

Klopp has clearly built a strong relationship with the board over the last few seasons and will be hoping that in the event of a possible sale, he can continue this under new ownership.
