Report: What two Arsenal insiders have now let slip about Aubameyang, could be troubling for Edu
Two Arsenal sources have communicated to the Independent that the club are now fearing another situation where they have to pay off Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s contract.
Ozil all over again?
Aubameyang missed out on playing for Arsenal in their Premier League opener against Brentford, with the club officially putting the reason down to ‘illness’.
However, there have since been reports that all may not be well between Aubameyang and Mikel Arteta.
And there are now growing fears that Aubameyang’s situation could go the same way as Mesut Ozil’s.
Just like Ozil, Arsenal gave Aubameyang a mega-money deal before his form started to dip.
Ultimately Arsenal had to pay Ozil money to terminate his contract, and there is a sense that the same situation could occur here with Aubameyang.
That would be a disaster for the Gunners, who only have limited funds as it is, and it will only serve to make Edu’s job of building a squad even more difficult.
Arsenal have grown used to having to pay their players off – with Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi also seeing their contracts terminated by mutual consent in recent times.
It now remains to be seen whether Aubameyang can be re-intergrated back into the group.
But the latest reports are a big concern, and will surely give Arsenal further questions over whether to hand out lengthy, and expensive, contracts to ageing players in future.
