There is reportedly a ‘growing feeling’ in the Premier League that Aston Villa could maintain their surprise early-season form.

That’s according to The Athletic, with the outlet sharing what rivals have been saying about Aston Villa’s options in defence.

Villa have surprised many after an incredible start to the season. Unai Emery’s men currently sit just one point off league leaders Arsenal and four points clear of reigning champions Manchester City.

It’s led to many questioning whether or not Villa can sustain a title challenge over the course of the season.

And it seems that Premier League rivals have noted Villa’s brilliant options at centre-back as a huge factor as to why they could challenge this term.

What Premier League rivals have said about Villa’s defence

The Athletic reports there is a growing feeling in the Premier League that Villa can keep up their positive start to the season.

Indeed, it’s noted that their strength at centre-back has been highlighted, even after losing Tyrone Mings early in the season.

Emery boasts three brilliant options at centre-back at the moment. Pau Torres has slotted in seamlessly following his move from Villarreal.

As for Diego Carlos, he’s finding his feet at Villa Park after being ruled out for the majority of the last campaign.

Ezri Konsa continues to impress and has even been used at right-back this season.

While Villa may lack doeth in certain areas of the pitch, their quality in central defence isn’t up for debate. Emery likes his side to push high up the pitch and Villa excel at catching their opponents offside.

The Spaniard trusts his central defenders to lead the way in this regard, and Villa have done an exceptional job defensively so far this term.

Mings is unlikely to feature again this season but Villa do also have Clement Lenglet as a back-up option in the position.
