Newcastle United insiders are briefing that the club needs to be conscious of Financial Fair Play during the January transfer window.
The Telegraph have reported on the Magpies’ pursuit of James Maddison when the winter opens at the start of 2023.
They claim that privately, Newcastle staff are saying that the club needs to be prudent with their spending in the mid-season window.
That said, they also acknowledge that we have heard this talk from the club before and then they have spent money – on the right players.

Newcastle may need to be conscious of Financial Fair Play
The report says Newcastle went over budget to sign Alexander Isak in the summer and that will have a knock-on effect on what they can do in January.
Will they push hard to get Maddison, who has just 18 months left on his contract?
He may well have come off the back of a World Cup where he has shone for England, although at the time of writing, he has just one cap for the Three Lions.
Newcastle are absolutely flying but perhaps they could do with some more creativity in midfield to unlock tight defences.
Maddison has been playing off the right for Leicester, but Miguel Almiron has been performing well in that role for Newcastle this season.
It is a really interesting chase for Maddison, and it might come down to whether the midfielder wants to push hard to move to the north east.
