Report: What Levy has told Conte in private about Spurs' transfer budget

Daniel Levy has repeatedly told Antonio Conte in private that there is not a huge amount of money to spend at Tottenham Hotspur heading into the January transfer window, according to a report from The Athletic.

Next month looks set to be a crucial one for Spurs. They have not been at their best so far this season. And yet, they find themselves in the top-four in the Premier League and through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

So the supporters will hope that the club can kick on and make some significant signings in January.

However, it would appear that Levy is not expecting to hand Conte and Fabio Paratici a war chest ahead of the window opening.

In fact, The Athletic reports that Levy has told Conte on several occasions in private that the club do not have a huge amount to spend.

Tottenham have spent money since Conte came in. The likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison have been brought in in the last 12 months.

But it may frustrate fans that Levy is seemingly looking to lower Conte’s expectations. The Athletic does note that Levy has not broken any promises to the Italian. And it is likely that the Spurs boss will have been aware of the situation anyway.

The claim highlights the challenge in front of Conte. Obviously Manchester City have largely been the yardstick when it comes to spending down the years. Liverpool have also been prepared to push the boat out for big signings.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are developing at a rapid rate. And of course, Arsenal made a superb start to the season.

Conte may not feel frustrated that Levy is telling him that there is not huge amounts to spend. But he may grow frustrated if Tottenham cannot keep up with their rivals.
