Report: What Ancelotti has now told Martin Odegaard amid Arsenal links
A report from Defensa Central has shared what Carlo Ancelotti has told Martin Odegaard in a meeting about his future with Arsenal keen to re-sign the Norwegian this summer.
How did Odegaard get here?
Odegaard was one of the players who really looked set to benefit from Zinedine Zidane leaving Real Madrid this summer.
Zidane did not appear to be convinced by the 22-year-old. And that left Odegaard leaving on loan on two occasions in the last two seasons.
The decision to let him join Arsenal in January came after he had struggled for game-time with Madrid following his return from his time with Real Sociedad.
Had Zidane stayed, it is not hard to imagine Odegaard leaving Real once again this summer.
But with Ancelotti coming in, the situation was a lot more uncertain.
What has Ancelotti made of Odegaard?
It did appear early on that Odegaard was likely to stay put in a blow to Arsenal’s transfer hopes.
The youngster has featured in pre-season. It was his pass that set up Rodrygo for Real’s goal in their pre-season friendly with Rangers at the weekend.
However, speculation surrounding Odegaard’s future has not gone away.
It was claimed this week that Odegaard is keen to return to Arsenal. And those reports prompted plenty of Real Madrid fans to insist that he should be sold.
Has Ancelotti quashed Arsenal hopes of fresh move?
Interestingly, it appears that the speculation has now prompted Carlo Ancelotti to act.
According to Defensa Central, the Italian called Odegaard into his office to discuss his future. He went on to insist that he wants the starlet to stay.
But there is still plenty of reason for Arsenal to be optimistic.
Defensa Central adds that Ancelotti said he was unable to offer Odegaard many assurances over game-time. He did suggest that he will get chances.
But the report has reiterated that Odegaard has doubts about staying.
Will Arsenal now make move?
Arsenal simply have to ask the question this summer. They may not get a better opportunity to convince Odegaard to move to the Emirates permanently.
Ancelotti has failed to alleviate the midfielder’s concerns. So Odegaard will surely be tempted if the chance to leave presents itself.
Arsenal are on course for a fantastic window. But bringing Odegaard back in some capacity would potentially be their biggest masterstroke yet.
And they may now have further encouragement to make their move.
