West Ham United are interested in signing Monchu on loan from Barcelona this summer, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (9/8; page 64).

David Moyes’s men are battling Brighton, along with a number of other European clubs for the 20-year-old’s signature.

The Sunday Mirror claims that Juventus have seen an £18 million bid which could have risen by a further £8 million rejected by Barca, who want to agree a new four-year deal with the youngster.

It does appear however, that Barcelona are willing to sanction a move which could lead to Monchu’s permanent exit from the Nou Camp.

The Sunday Mirror (9/8; page 64) reports that Barcelona are willing to loan the midfielder out. However, they want his wages paid in full and an option to make the deal permanent worth £36 million.

It is also claimed that Barcelona want to have a two-year option to buy Monchu back.

TBR View: Monchu could be an inspired signing for Hammers

The Sunday Mirror notes that Monchu has been compared to Barcelona legend Xavi. And he made his debut for the first-team on Saturday in the Champions League.

That certainly suggests that he boasts a frightening amount of potential. So if West Ham do not have to commit to spending £36 million to sign him next summer, perhaps it should be a no-brainer for Moyes’s men.

Of course, that decision may be a lot tougher should Barcelona insist on an obligation to buy. He has played the majority of his football in Spain’s third tier.

But Barcelona clearly rate the youngster highly. Juventus meanwhile, have seen enough to make a bid that would have potentially been worth £26 million.

So it would arguably be a big statement for the Hammers if they did manage to get something done this summer.
