According to Canal de Futbol, West Ham United are interested in signing Erick Pulgar. The Bologna midfielder is apparently being considered as a potential replacement for Declan Rice.
The 25-year-old is a tenacious defensive midfielder who impressed in Serie A last season. On top of that, Manuel Pellegrini probably knows all about Pulgar, given that the midfielder is a fellow Chilean.
It doesn’t look like Rice is going anywhere this summer. However, the Hammers would still be wise to consider making a move for Pulgar all the same. The 22-cap Chile international would add some steel to the Irons’ midfield contingent. What’s more, the aforementioned report states that the fact that Pulgar is such an affordable target is what makes him such an attractive proposition for the east London outfit.
If Pellegrini could bring Pulgar to the London Stadium for a bargain fee then he could take up an important role in the West Ham squad. With Carlos Sanchez ageing, Jack Wilshere being so injury prone, and Pedro Obiang being linked with a move away, the Hammers could do with bolstering their midfield contingent. Pulgar looks like the ideal man to take up this position in the team.
