Simone Zaza may not be remembered particularly fondly by West Ham fans following his disappointing loan spell a few years ago, but it would appear that the forward could hand the Hammers a transfer boost this month.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, David Moyes’ search for a new striker has taken him to Italy. And it is claimed that he is interested in Giovanni Simeone at Cagliari.
It appears that the Serie A side are prepared to let the 25-year-old leave this month. And that is because The Islanders have their eye on bringing Zaza in from Torino.
According to the report, Cagliari will have to move one player on before they can sign Zaza. And thus, West Ham’s interest in Simeone may work for them – although he is not the only member of the squad being linked with the exit.
Simeone has enjoyed a good spell since arriving from Fiorentina. He scored 12 times in the top flight last season. And he has found the back of the net five times in 16 appearances this term.
He is however, enduring a poor run right now. The Argentinian is without a goal since the end of October. Cagliari meanwhile, sit just above the bottom three after five defeats on the spin.
Much will depend on the terms West Ham have to consider, but there looks to be scope for Simeone to be a reasonable signing.
He is an intelligent player with an exciting amount of pace. And he is versatile. He is often seen dropping out wide or into the half spaces to get onto the ball and make something happen.
Moyes may have his eye on a more prolific goalscorer due to the lack of options he currently has. But Simeone would certainly have the potential to be a very good signing for the Irons.
