Sky Sport Austria have claimed that West Ham United have emerged as ‘very hot’ candidates to sign RB Leipzig striker Hee-Chan Hwang on loan this month – though they face competition from Bundesliga clubs.
Hwang, 24, joined Leipzig only last summer from RB Salzburg after he scored an impressive 45 goals and 29 assists in 126 appearances for Jesse Marsch’s side. But under Julian Nagelsmann, he has struggled for game time.
Indeed, the 32-time South Korea international has only scored one goal in nine games for Leipzig. He has only managed 35 minutes of Bundesliga action since October – spread across three appearances and is frustrated at his lack of game time.
The report claims West Ham are interested, with Bundesliga and English clubs keen. It is claimed that the Hammers are ‘very hot’ in their pursuit of the Asian ace, who is expected to leave the club on loan – six months after his £8million move (GFFN).

TBR’s view – Hwang would be a decent option for the Hammers
The January window is renowned for being difficult. Clubs do not want to lose their best players and it means the Hammers are unlikely to be able to sign their top targets. A loan deal, a stop-gap, is probably their best move.
Bringing in a player of Hwang’s quality would give them an excellent back-up option to Michail Antonio – one that can also play in attacking midfield – and they can let him return to Leipzig if a move does not work out.
That gives them the cover required until the summer, when it is easier to sign players. A good option.
