Report: West Ham United now make late bid for 25-year-old who tries to play like Sergio Ramos

It’s not been the most straightforward transfer window for West Ham United this summer.

It started very promisingly, with the Hammers signing Nayef Aguerd, but the centre-back picked up a nasty injury in pre-season.

And a report from Blick.ch suggest that West Ham could be making a late bid for a defender before the window closes.

It’s been a turbulent few months for David Moyes’ centre-backs.

Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna were unavailable at the start of the season due to injury.

Aguerd then joined them on the treatment table, before Issa Diop refused to play in order to force a move to Fulham.

This meant Moyes had to be full-back Ben Johnson alongside Kurt Zouma at the start of the season.

Thilo Kehrer was brought in from PSG, but it doesn’t sound like the defensive merry-go-round is over yet.

Report from 90min suggest Craig Dawson has multiple Premier League suitors and could leave the London Stadium.

West Ham are therefore preparing to dip back into the transfer market once again.

West Ham make late defender bid

The report from Blick.ch suggests that West Ham have made a bid for 25-year-old centre-back Nico Elvedi.

The Swiss international currently plays for Gladbach in the Bundesliga and has a contract that runs until 2024.

French side Nice also want to sign Elvedi.

Elvedi has admitted he tries to play football like Sergio Ramos saying: “I like the way he plays out from the back, as well as his aggression.”

West Ham fans would be over the moon if Elvedi ended up being anywhere near as successful at Ramos.

Elvedi has only been sent off once and so has a much better disciplinary record than Ramos.

The Swiss defender is versatile too, and can play on either side as a full-back if needed.

He would certainly be a better longer option than the 32-year-old Dawson.

A late bid from West Ham for defender Elvedi could certainly test Gladbach’s resolve as the transfer deadline approaches.
