West Ham United have been offered the chance to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal, according to The Evening Standard.

Maitland-Niles is yet to feature for Arsenal this season, failing to even make the Gunners’ bench in any of their Premier League matches.

The Englishman isn’t the only player Arsenal are trying to offload right now, with former West Ham target Nicolas Pepe exploring his options to leave the club this summer.

West Ham offered chance to sign Maitland-Niles

Once described by Mikel Arteta as a ‘huge talent’, Maitland-Niles has never been first choice under the Spanish manager.

Maitland-Niles joined Roma on the loan for the second-half of last season, but failed to make an impact, spending more than half of their matches on the bench.

The 24-year-old needs a fresh start, and West Ham could be the right place for get his career back on track.

The Hammers don’t have a huge number of central midfield options, which could give Maitland-Niles the opportunity to play in his favoured position.

His ability to play as a full-back on either side of the pitch would help West Ham deal with their current injury crisis, as they lack defensive options.

With Arsenal offering West Ham the chance to bring in Maitland-Niles, the Hammers could negotiate a very reasonable transfer fee.

He would be a very strong squad option for the Hammers, and brings with him more European experience as David Moyes’ side look to progress in the Europa Conference League.
