An apparent move from Tottenham Hotspur to bring Declan Rice in from West Ham United looks set to be scuppered by their London rivals’ disinterest in Eric Dier.
Bleacher Report is suggesting that Tottenham are keen on the England international but would not be willing to meet an apparent £70 million price-tag. With that in mind, Dier was set to be offered in exchange with Tottenham happy to let Rice’s England team-mate leave this summer.
However, West Ham are not keen on Dier, according to B/R. Instead, Tottenham would need to offer a different player as well as cash to make the move happen.
Tottenham, as reported by Foot Mercato, have also been linked with Hammers defender Issa Diop this summer. Some fans have suggested Dier could be used in any deal to secure his signature but that also now seems unlikely.
West Ham’s indifference to Dier is something of a surprise. They were linked with a move for the player by the Daily Star last month. On top of that, current Hammers boss David Moyes previously signed Dier on loan from Sporting Lisbon when manager at Everton with the aim of having him long-term.
What this means for Dier remains to be seen but it does appear that should Tottenham want to bring in any West Ham player this summer, they will need to find a more tempting carrot to dangle.
