Football website 90Min have claimed that West Ham United are considering an offer to sign Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic, with the player expected to be considering a move in the January transfer window.
Matic, 31, has only managed five appearances for Manchester United this season with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred in the middle of the park. Indeed, Matic has missed the last seven matches with injury.
The 48-time Serbia international has clocked up 92 appearances for Manchester United since his £40million move to Old Trafford from Chelsea. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he could leave for a bargain fee.
Matic is keen to leave United in the summer, with Paul Pogba and Andreas Pereira also preferred to the ex-Chelsea star. Matic is fond of living in London, after two separate spells with Chelsea and he may be keen on a move to West Ham.
TBR’s view – Matic is declining, but still a top-quality player
West Ham must work out whether he is worth spending money on. Is his quality going to last for the next couple of years, or could West Ham splash out and then see the midfielder decline rapidly in claret and blue?
He turns 32 in August and although he has little pace, Matic would be a good signing if West Ham are willing to match the majority of his £120,000-a-week Man United contract (Spotrac). He will be a good signing, if West Ham get him on the cheap.
