West Ham are looking to press ahead with their efforts to sign Arsenal defender, Calum Chambers, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Hammers boss, David Moyes, is looking to bring in some reinforcements after a disastrous opening two games to the season has seen his side fail to register a point as yet.
It is believed that James Tarkowski is the number one target for West Ham, however, he is proving too expensive. Instead, The Telegraph claims that Gunners star Chambers has emerged as someone Moyes would like.
The report claims a £12m move is potentially on the table, although the Hammers may also look to secure a loan deal for Chambers.
Formerly of Southamtpon, Chambers has struggled to ever nail down a regular place for Arsenal. He has got three England caps to his name and has plenty of PL experience, having made 101 top-flight appearances for Arsenal, per Transfermarkt.
Chambers could see game-time hard to come by this term. The Gunners have signed Gabriel Magalhaes, while William Saliba has arrived in north London from St Etienne.
West Ham are not alone in their pursuit of Chambers, though. TeamTalk claimed at the weekend that Newcastle are among the clubs also keen on the defender.
Chambers could be ideal for West Ham if he can stay fit – TBR View
Chambers is a very good player and proven at Premier League level. The problem is he’s just had a few nasty injuries and never quite managed to fulfil his potential.
However, at 25, time is firmly on his side and a move to another club could be just the ticket for the defender.
Capable at right-back or centre-back, Chambers would definitely give David Moyes a good option at the back. Furthermore, a player with over 100 PL games to his name is not to be sniffed at. The Hammers, then, could do far worse than land Chambers.
