West Ham are reportedly set to lead the chase to sign Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden in the summer.
According to the Daily Star, the Hammers and Brighton will lead the bidding for the 24-year-old at the end of the season.
It is understood that Newcastle want to try recoup over £20million for his St James’ Park exit.
Hayden has confirmed he wants a move away from Newcastle and a switch nearer to London for family reasons.
The central midfielder has established himself as an important player in Rafaela Benitez’s side this season and has made 27 appearances across all competitions.
He is a no-nonsense midfielder that breaks up play well in front of the defence and is composed on the ball.
Hayden has developed into an important player for Newcastle in the centre of the park and is a real physical presence.
The Englishman was previously on the books at Arsenal and has managed to bounce back from initial failure at the top level.
He’s got the potential to make a positive impact if he moved to the London Stadium to play for West Ham, but there would have to be concerns about his £20million valuation.
Manuel Pellegrini already has the likes of Mark Noble and Declan Rice in the midfield, meaning that there would be no guarantee Hayden could join and walk straight into the XI.
