According to a report from the Sunday People (29/9; page 52), West Ham are set to win the race to sign former Manchester United youngster Mipo Odubeko.
Odubeko is a free agent after refusing a new contract at Old Trafford and leaving in the summer. The Sunday People (29/9; page 52) reports that he had been expected to move to Italy and join Juventus. However, it appears that he could be staying in the Premier League.
The Sunday People suggests that the Hammers are set to beat the Old Lady to his signature after persuading the 17-year-old to head to the capital.
The report notes that the striker was viewed as one of Manchester United’s brightest prospects. He had scored more than 30 goals for the various age groups last season.
It looks therefore, to be an incredibly exciting opportunity for West Ham. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men wanted to keep Odubeko, while Juve hoped to bring him to Turin.
The Irons winning the race would be a huge statement of intent. He is obviously going to need time before he is ready to push himself on Manuel Pellegrini’s radar. But the early signs suggest that he is definitely a player to look out for.
And with West Ham arguably needing greater depth up front in both their first-team and under-23 side, perhaps it was seeing that path to the senior ranks that has reportedly persuaded Odubeko to move closer to joining the Hammers.
