Danish website Bold have claimed that West Ham United are set to complete the signing of highly-rated defender Frederik Alves Ibsen from Silkeborg, in a move that would see the 20-year-old centre-back join the Hammers in January.

The Denmark Under-21 international has earned rave reviews for his performances for second-tier Silkeborg, clocking up 48 senior outings for his boyhood club already. This season, he has played every minute of their six league games.

That has caught the attention of the Hammers, who are unable to have Ibsen available for selection from the moment they sign him – due to the current window only open for domestic deals. But it is believed a £1.2million deal will be agreed for January.

It is believed that the club held talks with Ibsen over the weekend, though Brexit has made those negotiations harder than first feared. But a deal is now expected to be done, in a move that will see Ibsen move to West Ham in January.

TBR’s view – Ibsen looks a class talent

To have already played 48 senior matches for his side at the age of 20 – 16 of which have come in Denmark’s top division – is some feat. Standing at a lofty 6ft 3in, Ibsen has enormous potential, but it appears West Ham have cottoned on first.

Certainly, he has enormous resale value and has the potential to be worth a lot more than the nominal £1.2million West Ham are supposedly paying. Good business for the Hammers, if they can get this one over the line.
