The Evening Standard have claimed that West Ham United are set to complete the £30million signing of Brentford star Said Benrahma on Thursday, with a medical expected to take place on Thursday afternoon.

Benrahma, 25, has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League after having a hand in 27 goals for Brentford last season – only for the Bees to lose in their bid for promotion. Fulham beat Thomas Frank’s side in the play-off final.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Crystal Palace have all been linked with the Algeria international but it appears the Hammers are about to win the race for Benrahma. An initial fee of £25million, plus £5million in add-ons has been agreed with Brentford.

Now, Benrahma has been given permission to leave Brentford this morning and travel across London in order to complete a medical with West Ham. Josh King was first choice, but agent fees and wages have complicated a deal for the Norwegian.

TBR’s view – West Ham owners finally take action

Having ended the main transfer window earlier this month, West Ham had just two new signings in Vladimir Coufal and a permanent deal for Tomas Soucek. While good additions, they still needed a defender.

Felipe Anderson’s loan exit to Porto meant an attacker was also required, with Grady Diangana’s exit piling the pressure on the already under-fire owners. But Craig Dawson has eased their defensive woes, while Benrahma will excite fans.

It will take the pressure off the owners, but for how long?
