Report: West Ham set to battle Sevilla for the transfer of Alexis Sanchez

West Ham and Sevilla are set to battle over the transfer of Alexis Sanchez, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The publication has claimed that Internazionale wants the player to leave this summer. Inter are going through a financial crisis with Sanchez earning €7m (£6m) a year.

The Hammers are reportedly in for a striker this summer to take the pressure off Michail Antonio. He was the only out-and-out striker at the club from January onwards after the sale of Sebastien Haller.

Sanchez endured a tough season in Serie A last term, playing just 1138 minutes. The Chile international played back-up to Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku as the Nerazzuri lifted the league title.

TBR View: Sanchez transfer unlikely for West Ham

The club are in desperate need of more quality in the final third. After securing Europa League football, the Irons will need greater depth next season.

Aside from loanee Jesse Lingard, all other attackers endured a tough time in the second half of the season. The Chilean would add an abundance of quality in the final third

However, the transfer of Sanchez isn’t the most realistic option for West Ham.

Inter qualified for the Champions League last term. And with his quality, the ace is unlikely to want to drop down to the second tier of European football.

Also, Sanchez earns €7m (£6m) a year in wages at the San Siro. With the current highest earner taking home around £100k-p/w, the South American’s wages could be a stumbling block for the east Londoners.

The idea of the 32-year-old at the club is a particularly dreamy one. However, it’s wholly unrealistic given the scenarios surrounding it.
