Report: West Ham set sights on 'devastating' 22-year-old forward who's like Arjen Robben

West Ham United have joined the race to bring Tete to the Premier League, according to talkSPORT.

The Hammers could certainly do with bolstering their attacking ranks this summer.

David Moyes is reportedly looking for someone who can take some of the scoring burden off Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen.

And Tete, who is on a short-term deal at Lyon, is apparently in the West Ham manager’s sights.

The 20-year-old joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Shaktar Donetsk in April.

FIFA gave special permission for players to leave Ukraine outside of the transfer window.

Tete has impressed at Lyon, registering one goal and two assists in just six Ligue 1 outings.

He played in both games against West Ham in the Europa League this season.

However, Tete he couldn’t prevent Lyon from falling to a 4-1 aggregate defeat.

The Brazil Under-23 international had his contract at Shakhtar terminated already.

This means means once his short-term deal at Lyon expires, he will be free to sign for any club.


In October 2020, Tete delivered a masterclass for Shakhtar in a 3-2 Champions League group win over Real Madrid.

BBC Sport lauding his efforts ahead of the return match in December, with the Ukrainians also won.

“A stunning goal, an assist and a devastating individual display helped the Ukrainians tear apart Real Madrid in a sensational Champions League first-half performance in October as they raced into a 3-0 lead,” they wrote.

BBC Sport also commented on Tete’s style of play being “somewhat reminiscent of former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben, because he loves cutting inside to his stronger left foot.”

Leicester, Brentford and Southampton were also reportedly interested in Tete before his move to France.
