Report: West Ham retain interest in £20m-rated Championship man, Arsenal have looked too

The Mirror have claimed that West Ham United remain interested in Brentford playmaker Said Benrahma after Crystal Palace’s pursuit of £20million-rated star went cold – while Arsenal and Chelsea have also taken a look.

Benrahma, 25, has cropped up on the radar of numerous Premier League sides this summer after having a hand in 27 goals last season – proving to be a crucial part of a Brentford side that reached the Championship play-off final.

Ollie Watkins completed a move to Aston Villa off the back of Brentford’s campaign, while the likes of David Raya, Rico Henry and other Brentford players have remained at the club despite being linked with moves to England’s top tier.

The main window has shut but Premier League clubs can still sign players from the EFL. West Ham retain an interest in the Algeria international, while Arsenal have also considered the playmaker. Palace were frontrunners, but a deal has gone cold.

TBR’s view – Benrahma would ease West Ham criticisms

The Hammers failed to bring in any new players on deadline day. They did complete a permanent move for the impressive Tomas Soucek while Vladimir Coufal also joined the club from Slavia Prague. There has been huge criticism.

Not least because the beleaguered Hammers owners have got rid of Josh Cullen and Jack Wilshere – leaving West Ham with just three central midfielders, while Felipe Anderson left the club for Porto on a season-long loan on Tuesday evening.

Landing Benrahma would go some way to appeasing those critical supporters. TransferMarkt claim Benraham has the same agent as Aaron Cresswell, Michail Antonio, Ryan Fredericks and Darren Randolph.
