West Ham United are prepared to pay £5 million to sign Shane Duffy this summer, with the Daily Record reporting that the centre-back is most likely to join the Hammers or Celtic.

Duffy is attracting attention after struggling for game-time with Brighton last season. He made just 12 starts in the Premier League, and is now looking set for a move away.

The Daily Record reports that the Irons and Hoops were joined in the race by West Bromwich Albion and Burnley. However, the latter pair are said to be trailing in the battle.

Interestingly, the report notes that all three Premier League sides are willing to sign Duffy permanently, while Celtic are looking at a loan deal.

The Record suggests that Neil Lennon’s side will have to pay £2 million if they hope to sign the defender for the season.

Meanwhile, David Moyes’s men are ready to offer £5 million to land him permanently.

TBR View: Loan move would be major statement from Celtic

The Record notes that Duffy is a Celtic fan. Nevertheless, it would still be a big statement from Lennon’s men should they see off competition for his signature.

Many players would be very tempted by the chance to stay in the Premier League. And in Moyes, Duffy has the chance to work with a manager he has already played under.

Brighton would surely be forgiven for preferring to send him towards the London Stadium with £5 million set to be put on the table. So it would be particularly impressive if Celtic could edge ahead of the Hammers and secure his signature.
