West Ham United are considering a move for Chelsea backup goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

The London Evening Standard have reported Hammers officials are weighing up a transfer swoop for the veteran Argentine stopper to be Lukasz Fabianski’s understudy.

Caballero – who is set to become a free agent this summer – has been with the Blues since the summer of 2017 after he left Manchester City on the expiry of his contract.

The 37-year-old has played second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois before the Belgian left for Real Madrid, and then Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018/19.

West Ham reportedly want Caballero with current backup stopper Adrian set to leave the club with his contract expiring.

TBR’s view

Caballero to West Ham is a fairly unsurprising transfer link, with Manuel Pellegrini knowing the star well from their time together at Manchester City and Malaga.

The South American pair have a good relationship and with Adrian set to move on, it’s a move that could have legs.

Caballero has had some fine moments in English football and could be an able deputy to Fabianski at the London Stadium.

The Poland international was in inspired form in 2018/19 and will absolutely keep his place between the sticks next term, and the experienced Caballero will surely understand that if he considers an offer from the Irons.
