Report: West Ham plot loan bid for Chelsea’s Ross Barkley

West Ham United are hoping that Chelsea will change their stance and allow Ross Barkley to leave the club this month, with the Daily Mirror reporting that David Moyes wants the midfielder on loan.

Moyes has his first signing through the door since his return to the London Stadium. But it seems incredibly unlikely that Darren Randolph will prove to be the last addition to his ranks during the January transfer window.

The Daily Mirror reports that Moyes wants Barkley on loan for the rest of the season. The pair worked together previously at Everton, with the 26-year-old making his first-team debut under the Scot.

Barkley has struggled to hold down a regular spot in Frank Lampard’s side this season. He has made just seven appearances in the Premier League.

However, it appears that the Irons will have their work cut out if they hope to sign Barkley. The Mirror suggests that Chelsea have no interest in loaning him out this month.

TBR View – Barkley could benefit from move away

Barkley – who earns £100,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – did play the full 90 minutes of Chelsea’s most recent game. But you could understand if he was tempted by the chance to move during this window if he had doubts about how much he will play over the coming months.

The good news for Barkley is that Lampard’s men remain in three competitions, so there may be plenty of opportunities.

But Moyes is seemingly keen to make him a key man for the Hammers. The chance to play that role may be tempting for Barkley, particularly with Euro 2020 just around the corner.

It looks as though a move will not be taking place unless Chelsea change their stance in the coming weeks.

So it will be interesting to see what Barkley makes of West Ham’s interest and whether any desire to move tempts the Blues to rethink their plans.
