West Ham United are planning to make a £5 million January bid for Newcastle United full-back Javier Manquillo, according to a report from the Northern Echo.
Manquillo’s future at St James’ Park looks to be somewhat up in the air. The Northern Echo reports that there is no guarantee that he will be offered a new contract with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

The Spaniard has started the Magpies’ last four games. Nevertheless, the Hammers are seemingly hoping that Steve Bruce may be willing to let him leave in January.
According to the Northern Echo, West Ham are looking to offer £5 million when the window opens next month.

TBR View – Shrewd move from West Ham?
West Ham fans will be hoping a bid for Manquillo is not the highlight of their January transfer window. But it may not be a bad move for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
He does offer plenty of versatility and can play on either flank. It is not a move that would capture the imagination. But it may prove to be a decent piece of business.
However, with Manquillo – who earns £35,000-a-week on Tyneside, according to Spotrac – featuring more regularly for Bruce lately, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle are willing to sell him in January. They may welcome the chance to make some money given that he can leave on a free in the summer.
But a £5 million fee is hardly going to give Bruce the means to oversee a shopping spree next month. So perhaps, it is not going to be an easy decision for the Magpies to make.
