Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have claimed that there has been contact between West Ham United and Barcelona over a move for defender Junior Firpo, but ‘nothing concrete’ while Inter Milan are keen too.

The Hammers have already been linked with Firpo before the January window opened, but only interest from the east London side had been reported. Now, it is claimed that West Ham opened talks for 24-year-old.

Moyes has moved Aaron Cresswell into a three-man centre-back system, while he has also lost Arthur Masuaku to a long-term injury. West Ham need a left-sided defender, and Firpo could be the man.

Indeed, West Ham want to bring Firpo to London. The latest report now claims there has been contact between West Ham and Barcelona. Inter are also keen for a player that TransferMarkt say has the same agent as Andres Iniesta.

TBR’s view – Firpo would be a top, top signing for West Ham

The issue for West Ham is that if they do go out and sign a left-back, they need a player that can improve them – and improve them to the extent that the incoming player can rival twinkle-toed Masuaku for a place in the team.

Firpo not only competes with Masuaku, but he blows him out the water and at just 24, he is a proper player. With Ronald Koeman willing to let him go, West Ham got to sign the left-footed ace.
