West Ham United want Luke Thomas of Leicester City and are weighing up a bid for the English left-back this summer.

The Guardian claim that David Moyes is considering a swoop for the youngster as he looks to bolster his options on the left of his backline.

Moyes has Aaron Cresswell, who is 33 and entering the last year of his contract, Arthur Masuaku and then Ben Johnson, who can cover at left-back.

But new blood is needed there and Thomas is a young Englishman with a bright future ahead of him in the game.

West Ham want Thomas

The report says that Leicester may be forced to listen to offers for Thomas because they need to sell to buy players this summer.

Their transfer business has reached a logjam because the unwanted players they are trying to shift have not garnered the interest they would have liked.

That means that an important performer may have to be shifted. In fairness, that is the model the Foxes have adopted for a number of years now.

Thomas continued his progression last season and in March, Brendan Rodgers lavished praise on him, as per the Leicester Mercury.

He said: “Luke has probably been our player of the season.

“He’s a young guy that’s come in, just 20 years of age, how he’s played and performed. He’s up against a top winger virtually every week, that’s great for the academy.

“That’s their job. That’s why the investment is there to bring young players through, and I’m the kind of coach who will give youngsters their opportunity.”
