West Ham United have spoken with the representatives of Lorient striker Terem Moffi, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Hammers could battle with Southampton for the youngster’s signature.

David Moyes’ men ended a run of defeats with a spirited performance against Leeds on Wednesday. However, the draw leaves them only outside of the relegation zone in the Premier League on goal difference.

So fans will be hoping that the Irons look to strengthen while the January transfer window is open. And it seems that West Ham are indeed eyeing one of the most in-form goalscorers in Europe right now.

West Ham make contact with Moffi

Moffi has scored 10 goals in 16 games in Ligue 1 this term. Only Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have found the back of the net more often in the division so far this season.

He has been heavily linked with Southampton. The Daily Mail reports that the Saints are keen to sign Moffi. But they face a battle with West Ham, with the Hammers making contact with the 23-year-old’s representatives.

It is not clear whether West Ham are planning to make a bid for Moffi. But clearly, West Ham fans would not complain about the prospect of another striker coming through the London Stadium doors.

They have only scored 15 goals in 18 games so far. No player in their squad has scored more than three times in the Premier League this season.

The Nigeria international has been ‘amazing‘ throughout his time in Ligue 1, scoring 32 goals in 85 league games for Lorient.

Interestingly, FBRef lists Gianluca Scamacca as one of the players who is similar to Moffi. So his arrival would not necessarily force West Ham into a change of style.

Certainly, if you were the forward and offered the chance to join either West Ham or Southampton right now, the choice is surely a simple one – despite the Hammers’ issues.
