Report: West Ham make another move to sign player they bid £20m for last summer

West Ham United have opened talks with Duje Caleta-Car as they step up their interest in the Marseille defender, Get French Football report.

West Ham are intending to bring in a central defender this summer, as they look to bolster their backline for next term.

West Ham have been pushing to sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea, but the player seems to have some doubts about the move.

Zouma is said to remain West Ham’s priority in the latest update, but they are now seemingly making contingency plans.

As a result, the Hammers have made their first move to initiate contact with Caleta-Car’s agents.

West Ham have seemingly had Caleta-Car on their radar for some time now.

Sky reported that the Croatian was very much on West Ham’s wishlist last year, when they launched a £20 million bid for him.

On that occasion, David Moyes’ side failed to get a deal over the line.

But they will be hoping to be more successful if they make a move this time around, as they look to step up their bid for new additions.
