West Ham United have put the highest bid on the table for Wesley Fofana, with Sky Sports reporting that the Hammers have offered a deal worth £33 million for the centre-back.

The Irons are yet to make a new addition to their first-team squad this summer. And time is running out for David Moyes’s side with the deadline looming.

But perhaps that wait for a new face could soon be over.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham have offered £23 million up front for Fofana. The bid also includes £10 million in add-ons.

It is noted that Leicester City also want the 19-year-old. However, it is the Hammers who have made the largest bid for the youngster at this stage.

TBR View: Fofana deal would be a big statement from West Ham

The West Ham hierarchy are coming under increasing pressure from the fans. Fofana arriving would not alleviate all of the concerns for many by any means. But it would still be a fantastic statement.

The teenager is excellent on the ball. But he is also very good in the air. As shown by Whoscored.com, only three players won more aerial duels per game than Fofana in Ligue 1 last year.

And only one player made more interceptions than Fofana.

It remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed from here. But surely, the West Ham board can hardly afford to be seriously linked with a potential signing only to end up empty-handed.
