West Ham United are leading Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Serhou Guirassy, with The Sun reporting that Amiens are keen to agree a £20 million move as soon as possible.
Guirassy has impressed for the Ligue 1 strugglers this term. He has scored eight goals in the top flight, including bagging a brace in the recent 4-4 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
Unfortunately, it appears that Amiens are expecting to be playing in Ligue 2 next term. They are five points adrift of safety, and they have not won a league game since November.
That has left the club looking to reach an agreement that will pave the way for Guirassy to leave this summer. The Sun notes that Amiens officials were in London last week to discuss a move as they turn some of their attention towards next season.
And it is suggested by The Sun that the Hammers are the team leading the race for his signature. Meanwhile, both Brighton and Hove Albion and Spurs are also interested.
The Sun notes that Jose Mourinho’s men are behind the Irons in the battle as Guirassy is looking for a starting role in the Premier League.
TBR View – West Ham cannot think too far ahead
Guirassy would perhaps be taking a gamble if he decided to agree a move to West Ham ahead of next season at this stage of the campaign.
David Moyes’s men remain inside the relegation zone. And while they have a game in hand over many of their rivals, it is Liverpool standing between them and a jump up the table.
It will be interesting to see what Hammers fans make of the Guirassy reports. They, of course, have had some success when it comes to signing players from France in recent years.
Dimitri Payet was arguably one of the club’s most exciting signings for some time. Meanwhile, Issa Diop has proved to be a good addition to the ranks.
But Guirassy’s record throughout his career hardly jumps off the page.
He is young and may still be improving. But he will have a lot to prove should he complete a £20 million move ahead of the summer.
