West Ham United are currently in pole position to sign Jesse Lingard on loan, but Goal reports that a number of Premier League rivals remain keen on the Manchester United midfielder.

It would be no surprise to see Lingard move on before the transfer deadline passes. The 28-year-old has barely featured for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men this season.

Goal reports that the Hammers want to take Lingard on loan. Meanwhile, it is suggested that the likes of Sheffield United and West Brom also want the England international.

The report claims that David Moyes’s side currently lead the race with Solskjaer reluctantly agreeing to let Lingard leave on loan.

It is noted that there is some way to go before anything is agreed. And of course, West Ham currently have two players on loan from English clubs.

The Watford Observer recently suggested that the Hammers want to make Dawson’s move permanent in the summer.

So perhaps they could decide to try and bring those plans forward.

That would free up a space to bring in another loan signing from another English side. And perhaps that player could be Lingard – who earns £75,000-a-week, according to Spotrac.

Judging by the latest reports, they find themselves in a good position in the race to sign him for the rest of the campaign.
