West Ham have lined up Real Betis enforcer William Carvalho as a potential replacement if they lose Declan Rice.
According to Estadio Deportivo, the Hammers would consider the 27-year-old as a potential target this summer.
The report details that he would be a replacement for the Hammers if they lose Rice amid interest from Manchester United.
West Ham have been heavily linked with Carvalho for a number of years and it seems he’s back on their radar.
But they already have a defensive midfield star in the shape of Rice, who earns £30,000-a-week (Sun) after signing a new deal back in December.
The 20-year-old has come through the academy to become a star player and is now a senior England international too.
Carvalho appears to be linked with a Premier League switch every summer and it would be good to finally see him in England.
The defensive midfield is a powerhouse with great strength and last season he was on top of his game in La Liga with Betis.
He also helped Portugal win the Nations League tournament this summer with a strong display in the final against Netherlands and would improve the West Ham squad.
But his potential arrival should not come at the cost of Rice and instead they would make a formidable pair together.
West Ham need to try keep hold of Rice for as long as they can, as he keeps getting better and is crucial to Manuel Pellegrini’s team.
