Report: West Ham interested in Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek
West Ham United are interested in a deal for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, with the Hammers yet to make a loan signing this summer, according to a report from talkSPORT.
The Hammers have enjoyed a decent window. They have certainly made some impressive signings with the likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Thilo Kehrer and Maxwel Cornet.
But it does appear that they may need further depth. And it does seem that more options are needed in the middle of the park.
Perhaps one of the players they will pursue is Loftus-Cheek. TalkSPORT reports that West Ham want the England international, as well as Chelsea teammate Armando Broja.
Perhaps surprisingly, the 26-year-old has featured in both of Chelsea’s first two Premier League games this season. In fact, his display against Tottenham was labelled the best of his Stamford Bridge career by Pat Nevin.
He has shone in a wider role. And with that, you do have to wonder whether Thomas Tuchel would be interested in letting Loftus-Cheek leave.
Much may depend on who Chelsea bring in before the deadline. But clearly, Loftus-Cheek is doing an excellent job of staking a claim for a spot in the side beyond the window.
West Ham interested in Loftus-Cheek
Loftus-Cheek has had a really interesting career to date. There were times when he looked destined to be one of the few academy prospects to actually make the grade at Chelsea.
However, there have now been a few false dawns. And because of that, it is easy to forget just what a talent Loftus-Cheek seemed to be when he was breaking through.
If his performance against Spurs is a sign of what is to come, West Ham will surely be set for disappointment in their pursuit.
But the Hammers may continue to monitor who still comes in in case it leaves the door open for Loftus-Cheek to leave.
