West Ham United are interested in signing Bournemouth defender Steve Cook as David Moyes looks to bolster his squad before the transfer window shuts for good, according to a report from the Daily Star.
It has been a turbulent time for Hammers supporters. There appears to be a lot of unrest after an underwhelming summer window.
Vladimir Coufal proved to be the only new face to arrive at the London Stadium. And, despite impressive wins in their last two Premier League games, there are concerns that the squad will come unstuck unless further additions arrive.
Of course, the Irons are restricted in the players they can target. Nevertheless, it appears that they are pressing ahead in their pursuit of the Championship players on their radar.
According to the Daily Star, they want Craig Dawson or Cook as they look to strengthen their centre-back options. They are also on the lookout for a left-back and a midfielder.
The Cherries captain has made well over 300 league appearances for the club, including 158 in the Premier League. So he would certainly bring further experience to Moyes’s ranks if he moved to the London Stadium.
It remains to be seen if Bournemouth would have any interest in letting Cook leave. They have lost a number of key players this summer. And with the season underway, they will surely be reluctant to consider offers for Cook.
From the outside, it is also difficult to see Cook pushing for a move away. So it will be interesting to see if West Ham can make the kind of bid that makes a potential move look more likely.
